Kupffer cells

1. Specialized macrophages located in the liver lining the walls of the sinusoids that form part of the reticuloendothelial system (RES) (also called mononuclear phagocyte system). ( 2. Large star-shaped or pyramidal cells with a large oval nucleus and a small prominent nucleolus.
