Bundle of His

Noun, pl. bundles of His 1. A collection of heart muscle cells specialized for electrical conduction that transmits the electrical impulses from the AV node (located between the atria and the ventricles) to the point of the apex of the fascicular branches. ( 2. Specialized heart muscle cells that transmit electrical impulses from the AV node in the heart to the muscle cells of the heart wall, which contract in response producing the heart beat. ( 3. The bundle of cardiac muscles beginning at the trunk of the atrioventricular node, passing through the right atrioventricular fibrous ring, then, extends to the membranous portion of the interventricular septum. Its function involves electrical conduction, transmitting the electrical impulses from the atrioventricular node to the apex of the fascicular branches.
