Video: The Endocrine System

Internal control of the body is directed by two systems: 1, The Nervous System and 2, The Endocrine System. In this lecture, I discuss the endocrine system and how endocrine glands control functions in the body through the release of hormones. The pituitary gland is known as the Master Endocrine Gland and plays a major role in controlling the other glands of the endocrine system.

I illustrate HOW the endocrine system by giving specific examples such as insulin and Human Growth Hormone’s role in regulating blood sugar, and adrenaline’s role in preparing the body for stressful situations. Enjoy!

  2. I thought the Human Growth Hormone was mainly released into the bones & muscles??? & when we have low blood sugar glucagon is released by the pancreas to increase glucose in the blood???

  3. @purpleleach1 What you will notice with the different hormones is that they have multiple effects. Yes, they do affect bone and muscle growth. However, it also affects blood sugar levels, stimulates the immune system, causes protein synthesis and a number of other things. And yes, glucagon has the opposite affect of insulin. It causes an increase in blood glucose levels.

  7. I wanted to thank you for having these videos on youtube. I’m taking a college course in Human Anatomy and Physiology and my instructor does not really “teach” it at all. She just writes out very vaguely what we need to know on the test, then we have to research it to really know the ins and outs about everything. Your videos have saved me!   14. @raheeg2008 Calcitonin is released by the thyroid gland (specifically the C cells). It was initially thought to be released by the parathyroid glands, but from what I understand, that was shown to be false. The thyroid does release t3 and t4. That’s correct!
